A day in the magical Amalfi Coast

Print

The street that connects the pearl of the Amalfi Coast is considered one of the most spectacular journeys in Europe, thanks to the scenery of incomparable beauty along the way to Amalfi.

The visit commences with a walk in picturesque Positano, a small town famous of its white houses and colourful bougainvillea that sweetly sweeps down to the sea.

Of merit, is a visit to the principal church of the town, the unmistakable Byzantine motifs and a little shopping in the characteristic boutiques of Moda Positano.

After Positano, is Ravello, where the natural beauty of the landscape blends with the precious monuments. We visit the Cathedral dedicated to Saint Pantaleone and Villa Rufolo that inspired Wagner’s "Parsifal", where a series of musical concerts are organised every year in his honour.

Al centro di Amalfi, preceduto da un'ampia scalinata sorge il Duomo, consacrato a S. Andrea (IX sec.) con una scenografica facciata decorata nel timpano da un mosaico ottocentesco.

The itinerary finishes with the city of Amalfi, one of the oldest marine republics and native land of Flavio Gioia, inventor of the compass. At the centre of Amalfi, preceded by a large staircase, rises the Duomo, consecrated to St Andrew (IX Century), with a scenic façade with mosaics of the 18th century.

There is then free time for lunch. We suggest a visit to the Arsenali where fleets of galleys were built. Not to be missed is a visit to the "grotta dello smeraldo" or "Emerald Grotto" that departs from the port of Amalfi.
